Description:
Crimson Sweet is well known and well loved for its crisp sweet flavor, storage and shipping ability, productivity, and resilience in the field. This improved seedstock has been selected for over 15 years by Pam Dawling of Twin Oaks Community in Louisa, Virginia - for flavor, sweetness, earliness and healthy foliage (you can read more about Pam's work at www.sustainablemarketfarming.com).
In trials at Care of the Earth Community Farm the Virginia Select strain held up the best to gummy stem blight - significantly better than regular Crimson Sweet. We've also noticed and appreciated its ability to withstand anthracnose and downy mildew. Debbie Piesen and Alexis Ziegler at Living Energy Farm are now stewarding this seedstock - they've tried a lot of other watermelons in the course of seed production work, and this is their favorite. 22 seeds/gram. Grown by Living Energy Farm.
