Growing Practices:
Latin Name: Phaseolus lunatus
Days to Maturity: 100+
Description:
This mix started with Red Calico lima for two years and then suddenly the purple/black and purple-mottled white beans showed up. I don't remember planting from another mix or seeds like these. They're very beautiful beans but require a long season and should be planted early. Likely, they are best adapted to Southern latitudes and will not perform well in short-season areas. They are strong climbers, prefer trellising, and will produce better this way.
The beans are very rich with a lot of depth when cooked. The flavor is a bit like red kidney beans but milder.
Discreet, white flowers are sometimes beloved by leaf-cutter bees.
