Growing Practices:
Latin Name: Hibiscus cannabinus
Days to Maturity: 90+
Description:
Kenaf is a beautiful plant. It grows very tall, reaching heights of close to 20ft, and will grow and flower in a variety of soils. It is in the mallow family, the same as okra, and the sour leaves can be eaten as a green. Very easy to grow and will flower as long as you have a long enough season. I am not sure what the limits are but as long as your first frost is in the middle of November you should get flowers. I grow it for the beautiful hibiscus/mallow-type flowers that are held high on the plant.
Kenaf is used in some countries to produce very high-quality paper. The seeds are also of interest as an oil crop.
Story of this Seed:
The original seed came from EFN. I have been growing it for a few years now.
