Growing Practices: No Pesticides No Herbicides No Fungicides No Synthetic Fertilizers

Latin Name: Cucurbita moschata

Days to Maturity: 130

Description:

A Thai variety with good Downy Mildew resistance. 4-8 pound pumpkins are circular and flattened, with deep ribs and bumpy skin. A LOT of pumpkin flavor, and also sweet. These are good cut in half, baked and then cut up like a pie. The flavor is so rich it feels like you're eating pumpkin pie without the work (or the sugar, gluten, dairy etc)! Not high yielding because so much energy and flavor goes into each fruit. 280 seeds/oz. Grown by Twin Oaks Seed Farm.

What is the best "date" to plant "winter" squash? I only have experience with summer cultivation. Is it the case the crop is not ready until Fall approaching Winter? Is it a lingo thing?

    • Yes its called Winter Squash because you can eat it all winter. We plant anywhere from May 15th to June 30th here, depending on the variety.

what is the best way to bake a pumpkin?

    • I like to cut these in half around the middle, empty out the seeds (scraping the sides to remove stray pieces of pulp), and then bake face up at 375 for about 1.5-2 hours, or till soft. Then cut into wedges. The seeds can also be cooked. Remove seeds from the pulp by hand (I usually don't quite get all of them), add some salt, and bake for about 20 minutes at 375 (in a single layer), stirring once halfway through. Edmund for CWSG
