Tags: Certified Organic Open Pollinated
Growing Practices: No Pesticides No Herbicides No Fungicides No Synthetic Fertilizers
Latin Name: Cucurbita moschata
Days to Maturity: 140
Description:
6-10 pound bell-shaped squash with very thick skin. Interiors are dark orange and have a rich earthy flavor, with mild sweetness. The skin on some of them is so thick you can use the bottom half of the squash as a bowl. The downy mildew resistance and general resilience of these plants is exceptional, and they’re also quite productive – though they take almost the whole season in Virginia to set and mature fruit. We ordered this strain from Caribbean Garden Seed in 2014 and are happy to have been able to do a growout this year (in a pollination isolation cage). We’ve done some selection for productivity, flavor, appearance and resistance to splitting.
