Description:
This is an exceptionally sweet variety. Chou Cheh Red comes from Shaanxi Province, China, via the USDA seed bank (PI 435990). 5-10 pound football-shaped fruits. Very productive and early, and forgiving of sub-optimal growing conditions (still sweet). Downy mildew resistant foliage, so grow any time in the season, early or late. Showed gummy stem blight resistance in a 2005 NC State trial. 20 seeds per gram. Grown by Twin Oaks Seed Farm.

The photos of the Chou Cheh Red Watermelon, on your site, look so much less seedy than those on SESE's website. Are these a really seedy melon? (We prefer less seedy, so if this is very seedy, could you recommend another that is similarly disease resistant and "forgiving" of less than perfect conditions? We're growing organic & low input in Central Florida). Thank you.

I don't think its seedy - I know from producing the seed that it doesn't yield a lot of seed for the amount of area or melons harvested. Also the seeds are small. -Edmund

We use a final spacing of 2 feet between plants and 5-6 feet between rows.
