Latin Name: Phaseolus vulgaris
Days to Maturity: 90
Description:
A well loved Appalachian variety of pole bean that can be eaten green as a snap bean with incredible smooth, nutty flavor; or harvested as a dried bean and eaten in stews all winter long. The ‘greasy’ name comes from the bean pod’s uniquely smooth texture. 90 days to maturity as a dry bean. It loves the Southern Oregon heat in summer when other pole beans wither, and can be planted as late as June. Prolific. Requires trellising.

Hi Joyce, this variety is great picked fresh as a green bean and also great used as a dry bean. So yes, pod and bean together at the green stage are great. Also easy to harvest for dry beans.
