This softneck variety, Ajo Morado, is the first garlic to be harvested and ready for consumption in the United States every year. The variety, accompanied with the style of braiding as well as its freshness, insure that it will last up to 5 months if stored properly. The beautifully purple striped garlic is accented by yellow stalks making this an absolutely stunning piece.
So pretty in fact, that half of our customers use them for decoration only, but please, for those of you who love garlic, TRY it! It has an amazing punch for a softneck, full flavored, and mild when cooked. Grown entirely by hand using all organic methods in volcanic soil far from any source of pollution these babies are the epitome of health. A 10 bulb braid will weigh between one and two pounds.

Answer this question
I bought 3 braids of Ajo Morado from Interdependence Market in Sedona, AZ. I would like to grow out some of it for the home garden. I have grown garlic before. How is Ajo Morado grown differently from other garlic as its maturity date is so early? I am in Cottonwood, AZ 3400 ft. Zone 8b

There is no difference Gayaura. It may develop a little slower in your area, but plant in the Fall in fertile well drained soil give it lots of water, amend with compost manure and fish. Thank you

Hi, typically 21 to 23 smaller bulbs, but we have sold out for the year. Try a braid, they have much bigger bulbs!
