Datil-(Capsicum chinense)-The Datil pepper is a very sweet fruity elongated habanero type that is popular in Central Florida. Especially in Saint Augustine. It's origin is said to come from the Minorcan people of Spain. As it is used in many of their recipes. The Minorcans from the Balearic Islands are rumored to have brought them over to the Americas in the late 18th century. Some also say that they originated in Cuba. Nobody can say for sure but it is one of the tastiest habanero types on the planet. The pods ripen from green to golden orange yellow. The datil chile plants can grow 5-6 feet tall. They are used in sauces and also jellies.
