Latin Name: Hibiscus acetosella x H. radiatus
Days to Maturity: Start harvesting in 30 days
Description:
This edible-leaf hibiscus is a great addition to salads, soups and smoothies! The maroon leaves have a slightly tart, lemon flavor.
Bronze Ruby hibiscus is easy to grow from seed and will bloom the first year as the days start to shorten in the fall. The flowers have the appearance of red velvet making this species a colorful addition to the edible landscape. This is an open-pollinated, natural hybrid so some variations in leaf and flower color may occur.
Plants grow 5-6 feet tall and wide in a single season. Keep branch tips cut back for a bushier look.
Grow in full or half-day sun for maximum flowering.
Story of this Seed:
This is a natural hybrid created by open pollination on my farm. It combines the leaf color of Cranberry hibiscus with the better flavor of the Ruby hibiscus.

Answer this question
Does this have hips like Rosella and is it related - will they cross?

It does have a crunchy calyx like roselle, but it's very thin and hardly worth harvesting. Both of these plants are in the Hibiscus genus and it is possible for them to cross. In my experience, roselle is more likely to have the genetics diluted by cross pollination than the cranberry hibiscus is.
